Stone Piece extends from my long-term project Lie, in which I created a language based on Chinese pronunciation to examine what remains and what changes in processes of translation. Here, I take Lie as a medium to engage with Yoko Ono’s poem Stone Piece from Grapefruit.
The work unfolds through two approaches of “reading”:
By Context — a chain of translations where the poem is transformed from English, into Chinese, into Lie, and further into music and images. This method reveals how meaning shifts and fragments across linguistic and sensorial systems.
By Content — a corporeal practice of recording the sounds of stones “aging” in different places around the world. These recordings are then translated into visual forms, allowing sound, time, and matter to be re-experienced as images.
